Queenie

Although master wasn’t here with me, I was glad to have found so many delicious sweets in this dungeon. This was much better than the haunted castle. I shuddered at the memory of the bowl of wrappers that had all been licked clean. If master hadn’t been there to protect me by flipping the bowl over, so I didn’t have to see the wrappers, I might have succumbed to the horror of the empty candy bowl. I was stirred from my reveries of master’s gallantry by the catgirl that was thrashing in the goo beside me.

“… stupid... scaly... bitch…” The goo slipped between the links of Jodie’s chainmail bikini, sticking to her skin and making her squirm. She stopped, panting for breath, and looked at me beseechingly. “Are you sure you can’t use your claws?”

“No,” I said. Even if I could move my arms, why would I use my claws to rip apart such a delicious treat? I filled my mouth with the warm, sugary, chewy goo and hummed contentedly to myself.

In the distance, the dungeon boss’s voice could be heard as she chased Cera through the maze, laughing and taunting her the entire time.

“Come out, come out, wherever you are!” Another giggle. “You can’t hide from me!”

“Ugh, it won’t be long before she’s caught.” Jodie let out a frustrated meow and slumped further into the goo, defeated. “We’re stuck to the wall, and I can’t reach my gun. Cera ditched us. We’re going to die here, and I never even got the chance to ride my go-kart. Not even once!”

I slowly chewed my mouthful of goo, savoring the flavor.

With much effort, Jodie craned her neck to look at me. “You’re awfully calm about our imminent doom. Do you not even care that we’re about to fail this mission?”

“We’re not going to fail,” I said. “Cera is still fighting the enemy.”

“You really think that’s what she’s doing?” Jodie snorted. “I bet she’s run off and left us to our gristly fates.”

“Cera wouldn’t abandon us,” I said.

“How can you be so sure? Don’t give me any bullcrap about how she ‘wouldn’t abandon her friends’ or something cliché like that. She’s so full of herself that she probably wouldn’t think twice about leaving us behind.” Jodie scowled. “Just like she did at the arcade.”

“Of course she doesn’t like us,” I said matter-of-factly. “But I trust her because master told me to trust her. Besides,” I smiled, “if she did do anything that would compromise our mission, I’d kill her.”

“… alright. Remind me not to get on your bad side,” Jodie laughed nervously.

“Jodie.”

“What?”

“I’m reminding you not to get on my bad side,” I said.

Jodie sighed. “No, that’s just a figure of speech.” She paused and scrunched up her face. “Fucking Felinus, I’m starting to sound like her,” she mumbled.

I finished the last bit of goo that I was able to reach with my tongue. Before I could figure out a way to reach more of the goo, two figures burst into the clearing. The first figure was Cera.
